Stifling UI Creativity… Just don’t k?

A lot of times creatively we tend to box ourselves in, or at least I do. I have my hand in many creative mediums and I do this in all of them.
When I produce a song I’ll stop myself if it’s “too weird” and judge my perspective. If playing with video I’ll trash a funky montage I’ve made with bouncing cat pics… “no one will get it.” If playing with UI elements I discard anything “not web or app looking.”
This perspective is garbage I’m realizing. The reality of creative endeavors is that they only really feel heavy and important in the moment of making them… and maybe they are! In truth most of my works don’t even see the light of day though and when they do it’s a flash in the pan situation.
The internet has made sure that any creative piece is only valid for a bout 3 seconds anyway… Take comfort in that. (see: my next medium rant)
BE WEIRD, TAKE RISKS. IT DOESN’T MATTER. You actually might stumble upon something genius in yourself. Take my advice… I’m not using it. I hope to though and posts like this help me to. Now go get busy and design, ya freak!
much love,
