Dr. Peter Mulhern is an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon previously based in Florida. He has been licensed to practice Orthopaedic Surgery in several states around the country and continues to provide excellent care to all of his patients. Dr. Mulhern works hard to reduce the risk of surgical infection in many ways. Perioperative antibiotics and appropriate selection of patients for surgery are just 2 ways to minimize risk. Increasingly, however, he has dealt with a growing number of joint replacement patients including some with infection as a complication.

Another way Dr. Peter Mulhern has helped his patients avoid the risk of surgical infection is by performing arthroscopic surgery whenever possible. This reduces infection risks because it is minimally invasive. Arthroscopic surgery involves small incisions near the joint, one for the arthroscope, to see into the joint space and assess the problem, and the other for the small surgical instruments themselves. Arthroscopic surgery has a drastically reduced recovery time, has been proven to be effective, and boasts a low infection rate.

Dr. Peter Mulhern makes sure all of his patients understand both the risks and rewards of joint replacement surgery and all of his other treatments. He has “been practicing general orthopedic surgery since completing his residency in 1988.” Dr. Mulhern earned his residency at the Georgetown University Hospital and has been practicing Orthopaedic Surgery in various locations both in private practice and as an employed member of a larger health care system.
