(NPR’s Michelle Norris said:) “We interviewed a Washington Post reporter who contends that Rubio’s parents did not flee Cuba after Fidel Castro rose to power in 1959. That’s the family story long told by the senator and his official website. In fact, Rubio’s parents immigrated for Cuba several years before the Cuban Revolution.” http://www.npr.org/2011/10/24/141663197/rubio-tries-to-clarify-how-his-family-left-cuba

I’m a third generation ethnic Cuban American “Latino for Bernie” who is embarrassed by Cuban Americans like Marco Rubio and even worse Ted Cruz. My family left Cuba for Tampa after fighting with the Spaniards for Cuban independence in the 1800's. In the 1920’s they were labor activists and built some of the first American unions in the cigar factories of Tampa, Florida. My grandmother’s brother fought with the Lincoln Brigade against the fascist Franco in the Spanish Civil War. My grandparents were blacklisted because of their union activity, so my dad had to leave school in the eighth grade to shine shoes and sell newspapers. He passed away 3 years ago. He was a waiter most of his life and one day after the restaurant owners disappeared along with his pension, he became a door man in the building where Donald Trump lived. By the way, my dad hated Trump and told me stories of how Trump hired undocumented workers in order to pay them less. He was the worst tipper of all the residents in the building.
