If reincarnation is real, I pray it comes in a bottle…
I would take in every drop of my sister’s pain
every sorrow,
every assault,
every misstep,
every false start,
every lie told as truth,
every insult to her femininity,
Mix it with drops of her music,
rhythm,
hip-hop,
blues,
and bounce…
Tap a smidgen of her creativity,
Her movement,
Enhance it with the sweet scent of her bosom,
Top it off with her sway and song…
Round it off with a drizzle of my brother’s swag…
If reincarnation was in a bottle,
I would tilt my neck,
Take it to the head,
Glide my tongue across the rim.
Close my eyes,
Raise my hands,
And plead to Allah to send me back as a Black girl…
