Why Homejoy Failed

House cleaning is too personal to be Uberized as one person said. I recall during the dotcom era being at a conference in which one person stood up during a panel discussion and said “I travel a lot and some days the only human contact I have are my doorman and the woman who works at the dry cleaners. I don’t want these people to be disintermediated and replaced by someone I don’t know.” Peolemple want to know who they are allowing in to clean their house. The whole tech industry has a problem in that it tries to minimize customer interaction with the company to control costs. But the customer wants to know who to punch in the face (figuratively) if something goes wrong.
