Whether you’re in a dorm room or just have a small space, monitors are a great alternative to large TVs for console gaming. Monitors are usually a lot cheaper, they look great up close and take up much less space. Many high-end gaming monitors also offer better motion performance and lower input lag than any TV on the market, which is great if you’re a competitive online gamer.

We’ve reviewed over 100 monitors so far, and below are our top picks for the best monitors for PS4 and PS4 Pro gaming. Check out our recommendations for the best gaming monitors, the best curved gaming monitors, and the best 4K gaming monitors.

The best gaming monitor for PS4 we’ve tested so far is the Acer Nitro XV273X. It is a great overall gaming monitor; it has one of the best response times at 60Hz we’ve seen on a monitor, so fast moving movements in your game will look very clear.

It has what you need in a gaming monitor. It has a black frame insertion function to enhance the look of movement, the input lag is low which makes for a responsive gaming experience, it has built-in speakers and you can add a virtual cross hair on the screen for FPS gamers. Picture quality is also good on this monitor, with excellent color accuracy out of the box, great peak brightness and excellent uniformity in gray. It uses an IPS panel, so it has wide viewing angles, which is great for co-op gaming.

Unfortunately, like most IPS panels, the contrast ratio is mediocre, so blacks look gray. Also, the 1080p resolution is too low for the PS4 Pro, but it is a good choice if you have the standard PS4. It has two HDMI 2.0 inputs if you want to connect your console and computer, and it has four USB 3.0 ports, which is great for charging your controllers or other devices. Overall, this is the best monitor for PS4 we’ve tested so far.

If you’re playing in a dark environment and you want a monitor with better performance in the dark room, check out the MSI Optix G27C4. The response time at 60 Hz is nowhere near as fast as the Acer Nitro XV273X, but it’s still good and it has a black frame insert feature to reduce motion blur. It uses a VA panel, so it has a great contrast ratio, but unfortunately it comes at the expense of viewing angles, which are poor. The input lag at 60 Hz is one of the lowest we’ve seen and has an excellent SDR color gamut. producing a wide variety of colors. Like the Acer, this monitor also has a 1080p resolution, which is good if you have a PS4, but may be too low for other content.

If you’re looking for the best gaming monitor for PS4, check out the Acer, but if you want something with better darkroom performance, consider the MSI.

Best 4k gaming monitor for PS4 Pro: LG 27UK650-W

Size: 27 “ | Resolution: 3840x2160 | Max. Refresh rate: 60 Hz |
LCD type: IPS | Variable refresh rate: FreeSync

The best monitor for PS4 Pro we’ve tested so far is the LG 27UK650-W. With its 4K resolution, images are delivered with incredible detail and clarity. It has a fast response time that results in very little motion blur and the input lag is excellent, making every button press feel amazingly responsive.

With an impressive peak brightness and decent reflection treatment, this IPS monitor is very suitable for bright rooms. It has wide viewing angles, so images remain accurate from the side, which is great for co-op gaming. Not many inputs are available, but enough to connect your computer and PS4 Pro. If you also play on your computer, this monitor supports FreeSync’s variable refresh rate, reducing screen tearing.

Unfortunately, the monitor’s mediocre contrast ratio and black uniformity make it difficult to recommend for darkroom games, although this is typical of an IPS panel. DThis monitor supports HDR, but because it cannot display a wide color gamut and the HDR peak brightness is quite common, luckily it has great ready-to-use color accuracy. Overall, the LG is the best 4K monitor for PS4 Pro we’ve tested so far.

BIGGER ALTERNATIVE: BENQ EW3280U

Size: 32 “ | Resolution: 3841x2160 | Max. Refresh rate: 60 Hz |
LCD type: VA | Variable refresh rate: FreeSync

>>CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON

If you have a little more room for a bigger screen, take a look at the BenQ EW3280U. It does not have wide viewing angles like the LG 27UK650-W, but it also has 4K resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The 32-inch screen offers much more space for an immersive gaming experience and for productivity. It is also a better option for those who enjoy gaming in the dark as it has a VA panel with a much higher contrast ratio. However, there are drawbacks as it can’t get very bright and the standard only offers tilt adjustment which is quite disappointing.

Overall, the LG is a better choice for most people, but the BenQ offers more screen space as long as you agree on a few compromises.

Best budget gaming monitor for PS4: ASUS VG279Q

Size: 27 “ | Resolution: 1920x1080 | Max. Refresh rate: 144 Hz |
LCD type: IPS | Variable refresh rate: FreeSync

>>CHECK PRICE ON AMAZON

The best budget gaming monitor for the PS4 is the ASUS VG279Q. This monitor has an IPS panel with a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of 144Hz. It has good build quality in spite of its price, and its excellent ergonomics puts monitors that cost considerably more to shame.

You adjust the monitor to your liking by its excellent ergonomics. It has impressive peak brightness and good reflection treatment for use in well-lit rooms. Response time is good and there is an optional black frame insertion feature to reduce motion blur. Input lag is excellent and there is support for FreeSync if you also play on a PC. It doesn’t support HDR, but there are a few useful extra features, such as the ability to place a reticle for shooting games and an overlay for the frame rate. The backlight is flicker-free and speakers are built-in.

Unfortunately, like most IPS panels, it has a low contrast ratio and undersized black uniformity, so it’s not ideal for gaming in the dark. With this monitor, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great gaming experience, making it the best PS4 gaming monitor in the budget category.

That's it!
