I used to think similarly, but then I realized it was just FOMO. Facebook is undeniably significant but one cannot participate in every significant movement, even within the narrow sector of technology, even within the narrow subset of social media and digital publishing.
The fact is that popular culture is relentless; it forces itself on you whether or not you ask for it. I run into Facebook regardless. I am aware of them, their methodologies, and their policies even if don’t want to be.
Scoble’s declaration that not using Facebook is an “idiotic,” “anti-social” move is empty hyperbole. The 21st century is bountiful with content and human contact with or without Facebook.
