Writing on Medium
On using someone else’s brand
Here it goes: this is the first time I’ve attempted writing on Medium.
I feel conflicted about this. I have my own blog (running Blogger), which I already feel I don’t write enough to, and have been in the process of setting up a Jekyll powered blog on http://dsernst.com. Is another public writing space really the answer?
There’s something about my writing being on this brand that I just don’t care for. Like how long can the party last before it gets turned into advertising fodder for them? I already feel burned on this from Facebook.
I want to own my own content. Not have to deal with whatever legal hoopla the ToS tries to finagle.
Am I the only one who feels this way?
But I must admit, the design of Medium is top notch. Pretty easy to use interface, and damn beautiful aesthetics.
And this writing interface feels nice. Easy to use. It’s just: “go ahead, write here”. Everything else gets out of the way.
Hats off to @Ev. He sure seems to have hit yet another one out of the park. Blogger, Twitter, now this? What a passion for building the infrastructure to get written content on the web. Will be really interesting to follow this story and see where it goes next.
How long will Medium remain ad-free? How could it? Don’t the VCs want some major return on investment? Very curious to see how this develops.
Well, no need to agonize over this first post. Time to ship!
