A Birthday Poem For My Girlfriend

I wrote this in the birthday card I gave my girlfriend last year.

You’re beautiful,

smart, fun and hilarious.

Every day’s been a joy,

being near you a privilege.

The way you feel,

about who you are,

what you are,

how you look,

the things you do,

will take care of themselves

in Aggregate.

Just…

Be excellent in little moments.

Make today about the present,

and let the result be that you Start.

Things tend to Finish the way they may.

Follow your own curiosities,

Learn new things,

Read books,

Develop new opinions,

Have meaningful things to talk about that change.

Every day or week at minimum.

Sleep well, eat well, and seek smiles.

You won’t be the same person you were last year.
