The Entrepreneur

It was the same half hour drive that I had taken many times before, however this time was not to go to the mall, visit family, or purchase some books. This time I was driving towards the opportunity of my life. Working at a factory in my home town, I was making good money, but had the worst schedule to date, working twelve-hour swing shifts.

This job was not anywhere near where I knew I wanted to end up, but it worked for the time being while I was finishing school. I had only one semester left of my Business Management degree, and I jus needed to tough it out until then.

For one of my classes, I had to interview a local small business owner/ entrepreneur, so naturally I reached out to a local shop owner that did custom car and truck builds. After sending a Facebook message to the owner, him reading it, and deciding not to respond, I was surprised. Why wouldn’t an entrepreneur want to help a student and share knowledge to an aspiring entrepreneur? Don’t get me wrong, I understand all of the confidentiality reasons, but you can still share tactics and real world concepts.

So, back to square one.

After telling one of my friends, Nate, about the incident, he suggested I reach out to the owner of another local shop that specialized in custom truck builds and was getting into the car scene.

The name of the company is Custom Offsets, and the owner is Shawn Chartier. Shortly after messaging Shawn inquiring about an intern position and also hoping to at least get an interview out of him, I receieved a message asking about my passion and skills, leading to a chain of messages leading up to the interview. Although, the interview was not much of an interview at all, he just told me to come hang out for the day. I showed up in khaki pants,a Calvin Klein dress shirt, and dress shoes. I was greeted by a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops. I knew it was going to be an interesting day.

To be continued…
