One further manner in which the founding team sets the tone is the processes around hiring and firing people. The hiring/interview process is often crafted by the founding team in a reactive manner in response to the needs to find talent for budding company. These practices are often then engrained as standard protocol, and often these practices set up biases inherent to what they’re measuring for, the manner in which they measure, or who does the measuring. Addressing meta issues such as candidates second-guessing their qualifications or interview performance due to reasons specific to diversity candidates can further influence the rate at which diversity candidates land offers, and is one of the symptoms of this disregard that our company Outco helps engineers grapple with.
