What is Broadcom BCM2711?

The BCM2711 features a 64-bit ARM Cortex-A72 processor with four 1.5GHz cores, outperforming Raspberry Pi 3’s Cortex-A53 cores. It includes a built-in VideoCore VI graphical processor, handling graphics-intensive applications like 4K 3D gaming and 10-bit 4Kp60 H.265 video decoding.

Moreover, it supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and PCIe, making it versatile for embedded systems.

Broadcom BCM2711 CPU Cores

The Broadcom BCM2711 is a quad-core, 64-bit processing chip designed for the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (Pi 4). It features four ARM Cortex-A72 cores, each with 256KiB level 2 cache and 1MB level 3 cache. Notably, this SoC is the first Raspberry Pi to include a 64-bit quad-core processor.

The BCM2711 also incorporates a low-power VideoCore VI GPU supporting OpenGL ES 3.x, OpenCL 1.x, and Vulkan, making it well-suited for modern applications and games. The on-chip GPU enables multimedia performance and facilitates 4K display output through its two HDMI ports.

Additionally, the BCM2711 supports 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, delivering up to 15 times more bandwidth compared to its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
