Going to the theater
I’m not sure why, but I like to watch all of the trailers for whatever it is I’m about to see.
There’s a certain anticipation, familiarity, clairvoyance, whatever you want to call it, that makes the movie somewhat more enjoyable that first time.
My husband and I just finished watching Captan America: Civil War and I thoroughly enjoyed it. All of the avengers and new characters get some screen time.
I must say that as everything was happening, I was a little frustrated at how divided the avengers became.
The frustration comes from both sides having their own form of ‘being right’ and not being able to compromise.
In all reality, I would’ve rather they teamed up to fight Hydra or some other remnant or evil force.
Them beating each other up is like watching parents arguing because someone forgot the bread, milk, and eggs.
Emotions ran high in this film and there were enough scenes that tried to be funny to balance it out, but I think it ended on a weird note for my own liking.
I definitely liked all the highlights and there was enough action to make any non-action fanatic happy, but the way that all of these fairly capable superheroes spent more time duking it out between each other rather than trying to establish common ground or (SPOILER ALERT)…
Agree to disagree (which effectively describes how the movie ends).
Maybe it’s because there were a few scenes that seemed to pad the length of the movie, or maybe it was a certain character getting too much screen time for a Captain America movie.
By the end, Captain America holds his ground on his beliefs and Tony basically accepts this after his rage-fight-quit moment. The gist of the movie is that Captain America wants to answer to nobody and has a lack of trust in those not on the field. Beyond this, he seems entitled to do what he depicts as the right thing.
There are many parallels and hidden messages that anyone can derive from the characters’ actions, but I don’t feel like getting into any of those at the moment. I feel like anyone who tries to judge / critique / analyze a movie after a single experience is not doing any justice to the science/artform. It’s like running a single experiment and taking the results as golden.
I may analyze the movie a bit more after I get the chance to see it multiple times, but I will hold my tongue till then.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and am looking forward to the future Marvel movies.
In the meantime, I am looking forward to watching it again to try and dig a bit deeper into some of subtle things that I am sure exist throughout the movie.
