Sick
I hoped a simple day where I did not exert myself too much would help prevent me from getting even more sick, but my body was not on the quick path to recovery.
I chose a perfect Friday to see a doctor as it was the Friday before the 4th of July weekend and many doctors had already taken the day off, many people had already booked appointments, and I was unable to get an appointment with my primary physician.
I drove to an office that was with the same medical practice of my physician, however, I had never been to this office before, so I made sure to be a bit earlier than normal.
The parking lot was beyond capacity, so I parked in the lot adjacent to the one meant for the office I had an appointment in.
I checked in while having a brief conversation with the desk clerk. She was well aware that I had never been to the office before and was overly curious.
The man behind me had checked in without ever saying a word, the nurse knew who the man was and had just said ‘the doctor will be with you momentarily’.
A few seconds later she calls ‘Dan for Dr. X?’ The other man and I both stand up, only he had a very puzzled look on his face. He was there to see Dr. Y and it was just odd timing that two men named Dan were in the office at the same time (at least the staff had a good laugh of it).
The doctor saw me within moments and reminded me of the stereotypical older uncle who mumbles to himself and often sought after for wisdom and advice.
We had a few short conversations, he gave me a diagnosis and some prescriptions, and had sent me on my way.
Within a grand total of 20 minutes (less than half of the driving time just to get to the doctor’s office), I was on my way back out, this time to head to the pharmacy.
I usually am pretty good at knowing when my sickness can be fixed with home remedies but this time I needed some extra assistance.
My copay for seeing the doctor is six times as much this year as last year.
Needless to say, I am trying to prevent the need to go to the doctor, but every now and then, it’s better to go and get rid of something sooner than later when it’s beyond simple control.
