This isn’t the first time I solo traveler, but I’ve never down a whole trip on my own! You can kinda get lost in your own thoughts when solo traveling though so I decided to write some of this stuff down. Last time around I tried drawing a picture every day. This time around I’m going to do that and also write for a bit! Let’s see how this goes!
Log 0: <24 hours in Osaka
It was really great meeting up with my cousin John in Osaka. I had originally wanted to go straight to Kyoto but I’m glad I didn’t! Fun fact I didn’t decide this until I was on the plane. Booked a hostel via surprisingly affordable in flight wifi.
I really just ate in Osaka. Started with some takoyaki right outside the hostel followed by going to 2 different places with lines before settling at a standard chain okonomiyaki. This was actually really great because they made it for you at the table apparently in Tokyo you have to do it yourself. We then checked out a few bars and caught up.
That night at the hostel was great too! I wanted to sit down and write this but people came in and hung out. We had ~6 people, 2 spoke Korean/Japanese, one spoke Korean/English, two spoke Chinese/English and one spoke just Japanese. We ended up translating things back and forth a lot which was fun. Also made me realize I should always buy some beer (with extras) at a hostel. easier I make friends if you give them drinks. I should also learn some basic phrases in Japanese or it will be difficult/interesting to order food…
Little thoughts for future pondering:
Japanese the language doesn’t have the concept of “or”
The emperor is still the religious leader and people worship him! Royal family doesn’t have a last name.
Shinkansen tracks are sloped on turns!
