Twitter makes 89% of its revenue from advertising. Google makes 91% of its revenue from advertising. Facebook makes 97% of its revenue from advertising. Everything else these companies offer is a lure to feed advertising sales.

The Internet is 25 years old and advertising is still the dominant means of monetizing. That clashes sharply with Silicon Valley’s self-promotion of itself as capable of unparalleled creativity and innovation.
