Haskell is extremely well established, but it’s not anywhere near as approachable for a traditional javascript developer or as focused on making it easy to create client-side web applications. Elm is very specifically built for that exact purpose. This isn’t to say that they’re at odds: in fact the Elm compiler is written in Haskell!
