So, let’s explore what Siri can do — on your smartphone — to help with your investing research!

Siri Takes Over…

Siri on the iPhone is great for getting directions, checking your schedule, making appointments, reminders, etc… but it can handle a lot more! It just takes figuring out what works for you…like investing updates and research!

  • Market Updates
  • Stock activity and stock comparisons
  • Open the “Stocks” app directly
  • Accessing Individual Companies Investor Relations Web pages

Market Updates

1- “What was the Dow performance on Friday” (last day market was open)

“What was the Dow performance on Friday?”

2 — “What did the markets do on Friday?”

This question returns the most recent closing activity from the US major market indices.

“What did the markets do on Friday?”

Stock Activity and Stock Comparisons

3 — “How did Apple stock perform on Friday?”

“How did Apple stock perform on Friday?”

4 — “What’s the PE ratio for Apple, Microsoft and Google?”

Notice in this case that Siri interprets “Google” as GOOG or the company Alphabet, Inc., which is Google’s new name.

“What’s the PE ratio for Apple, Microsoft and Google?”

5 — “What’s the market cap for Apple, Microsoft and Google?”

“What’s the market cap for Apple, Microsoft and Google?”

6 — “What’s the 52-week high for Apple, Google and Microsoft?”

“What’s the 52-week high for Apple, Google and Microsoft?”

Open the “Stocks” App

7 — Just Ask Siri to “Open the Stocks App” for more expansive information!

“Open the Stocks App”

How About Accessing Individual Companies Investor Relations Web pages?

8 — “Open Apple’s Investor Relations website”

This works much of the time, which surprises me…

“Open Apple’s Investor Relations website”

9 — “Open Microsoft’s Investor Relations website”

“Open Microsoft’s Investor Relations website”

10 — “Open JM Smucker’s Investor Relations page”

If Siri does not identify the specific website to open, it shows you the results of a web search, where the correct website is typically one tap away!

“Open JM Smucker’s Investor Relations page”

I hope these brief examples gets you thinking of how you can use Siri. The power is in your hands — play with it!
