Taking a Break
The past several months have been an exhilarating ride for me. I’ve learned about the daunting challenges of mental health care in the United States, along with the incredible opportunities to address them.
I’ve had the chance to help the company take some of its first steps: building a technical team, developing an initial product, and securing pilot projects.
But I ultimately decided that the role was not for me. I’ve learned a ton from this first experience as a CTO, but I’ve found out that the role doesn’t play to my strengths or passions.
As for me, it’s time to hit pause. I’m stepping down from my role as CTO to become an advisor. I’ve never taken a break between full-time jobs, and I’m looking forward to giving it a try. I’m not planning to take a complete break — I’ll do a mix of advising, consulting, and speaking. But I expect to stay unaffiliated for a while, using the opportunity to recharge myself and spend more time with my family.
For the first time in my professional life, I’m not sure what’s next. And I’m going to savor it.
