Dear OpenCollective,
If I could be granted the Host status, I would dedicate it to host projects that support the five Causes of our Tribe, namely :
Here are the rules I would set in place :
Creating a Collective
Applying the "Default to trust" principle, anyone claiming to have a project supporting at least 2 /3 of these causes, would be welcome to join. By "claiming", I mean publishing an online, permanent, freely accessible statement explicitly signed by clearly identifiable project initiators : one-page site, medium post, blog post, etc. Personal emails, whoever is on the address list, don't work. This manifesto will be referred as the Cause of the Collective.
No secret project
The Collective members accept that its existence and all their publications on their page can be freely shared, distributed, talked about, while of course maintaining the original credits to the authors.
The people here are the right people
All collective members are administrators of the collective. For instance, anyone inside the collective can invite new members the collective.
Intention principle
For invitations/bans, status updates, project initiations/closures, Collectives are invite to self-govern themselves outside of the platform.
For a decision involving an expense for the Collective : whoever wants to take responsibility on a spending should beforehand share his/her intention with the Impacted, and the Experts for that decision, leaving them enough time to express their opinion.
It is the decision maker's responsibility to demonstrate that it has been done properly.
It is my appreciation to process an expense based on the following parameters :
- Amount of the expense ;
- Convincing evidence that the expense will not generate more tensions that it resolves ;
- Alignment of the expense with the stated Cause of the collective ;
- Clearance of past record expenses.
All expenses will be rated subjectively against these 4 criteria and the rating will be made public.
Processing an expense
Money is transferred to the decision-making Paypal account. Collective member must upload the original invoice as soon as possible, and/or picture of the goods purchased, or any other evidence that the service was provided.
Sleeping money
If a Collective has no action planned and a balance over 400€, 2€ every month will be withdrawn to cover the cost of running this tribe. Since this is a Cause by itself, there will be a collective for it, which means usage of that money will be transparent.
That’s it ! I’m willing to take the bet that people will self-organize around these simple set of rules. Of course, this is an experiment. We will devise strategies and new principles as we will further practice.
