Sidewalks — streets for pedestrians: the same basic navigation rules should apply

Walking down the sidewalk. We do it everyday. No problem. Yet more and more it is a problem. Urban areas are becoming more congested. In addition to people, there is often a “service zone” with benches and trees. There is also a “transition zone” where shop windows stop passersby and people come and go through shop doors.
