I agree with you these icons are out-of-date. We need a new generation of the modern icon. I believe that Apple is on that way: new Photo icon without a photo, new AirDrop without the real dropping a box. But if we don’t use Metaphor, UX will become inconsistent. It’s still a hard problem to solve :D
