Unless there’s a dynamic market for hedging the scarce settlement currency, with enough throughput to sustain it, you can’t fully realize the killer app of the settlement medium. That’s de minimus. I get that higher-value financial moves are the core use case for the protocol, that’s how I’ve been using it for 4 years, but there is a trade-off in the dimension of thoughput that you are ignoring as much as some are ignoring the trade-off in the dimension of security. Hence, everyone rallied (figuratively and otherwise) around a compromise that accomplishes a bit of both without overtly risking the security component. Moving on…
