The Glensheen APP

www.glensheen.org

Over the years, Glensheen has been a Guided Tour only experience. We are extremely proud that because of our guides, we have one of the best TripAdvisors ratings in all of Duluth. We are the no. 1 rated paid experience in Duluth. That is mostly a testament to our awesome guides.

But.

There is always a but. The guided experience has some pretty significant pitfalls. If you are a young family, a guided tour can be a little tough. What happens if your young child needs to use the bathroom. What if your young one starts to cry on tour. Kids are not exactly best suited for an hour long guided tour. This has isolated or scared away a great number of families from experiencing Glensheen. Also, if you have hearing problems or maybe you are slow walker a guided experience is less than ideal as well. So we have recreated the tour to be self guided to make Glensheen more accessible to all.

Plus, we have added some fun elements.

Tall Signs

“Tall Signs” — there is now one in every room with the same information you reserved prior.

In every room of the mansion we have added a large six foot sign to tell the history & stories of the mansion and family.

In addition, we highlight several items throughout the home that you typically can’t see well. This way you can better appreciate their details.

Lastly, we have added the photos from 1910, that show how little each room has changed over the last 100 years.

NEW Glensheen App

For folks who still want to hear about each room from a person, we have created an audio tour which you will find in the APP. Plus, we have added even more detail information about each room and more closeup photos of objects throughout the rooms. It also uses beacon technology to alert you what room you are in, through direct notifications on your phone.

Take a seat

As a way to encourage visitors to appreciate each room more, we have added chairs inside of most rooms. We hope you will take a seat and soak more of each room in. Now with the NEW Tour, you can spend as much time as you want in each exhibit.

Plus sometimes, it is nice to take a rest. Now we advise you too.

Just another way we are trying to be more accommodating to all visitors.

Kinda NEW Family Adventure Tool — Treasure Book

A few summers ago we created a new Ispy game for kids on tour, called the Treasure Book. It is small booklet which asks kids and their parents to find two historic items per room, if they find them all, they get a prize in the Gift Shop. This has been one of our most popular changes in the last three years.
