Dunalastair Hotel Suites Now Taking Bookings for the Marie Curie Etape Caledonia

Taking riders across an 81 mile course resplendent with truly breath-taking views of the Scottish Highlands, the Marie Curie Etape Caledonia is back for 2017. Here at the Dunalastair Hotel Suites near Pitlochry, we’re now accepting bookings for those brave enough to tackle one of Scotland’s most exhilarating closed-road events.

What is the Marie Curie Etape Caledonia?

Often referred to as one of the most picturesque cycling events of the year, the Etape Caledonia sees over 5,000 eager cyclists descend on the Perthshire burgh of Pitlochry for an adrenalin-charged adventure through lush forests, rolling hills, and exhilarating open roads.

This year, the event is set to take place on Sunday, May 21st 2017. Cyclists are expected to begin arriving from Thursday, May 18th to begin checking in, registering, and taking care of any last-minute preparations.

As it has been for the past several years, the event will be sponsored by Marie Curie, a national charity which provides ongoing care and support for those living with a terminal illness, and their loved ones. Every year thousands of entrants use the event to raise funds for this worthwhile cause, with a number of fundraising events taking place throughout the Etape weekend.

One of the Most Exciting and Scenic Sporting Events in Scotland

The course itself begins in Pitlochry and carries on through nearby Loch Tummel before heading directly past the Dunalastair Hotel Suites here in Kinloch Rannoch.

From there, riders have the challenge of a lifetime ahead of them as they begin the demanding climb up Schiehallion, one of the most well-known mountains in the Scottish Highlands, as famous for its steepness as it is for the truly glorious views to be enjoyed at the top.

The good news is that having finally conquered Schiehallion, those same riders will enjoy a wonderful descent, taking in some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery all the way to the finish line back in Pitlochry.
