Starting The Process.

The most frequently asked question that I hear in casual conversation about real estate is “where do I start”. The truth is there are a couple places that you could start. If you need money to buy your dream home you could call your bank or a mortgage company. You could also call a realtor that you trust and sit down and have them explain the home buying process from beginning to end. Either one is a perfect place to start.

I also hear “when will I know if Im ready”. Easy! When you are tired of paying someone else’s mortgage for them by paying rent or if you want your hard earned money to give you something in return, like ownership or equity. Doesn’t matter if you are ready now, or 6months or 1yr or 3yrs away from purchasing a home. Calling a lender or a realtor now even if you are not ready for financial or credit reasons can save a lot of frustration down the line. It also creates a small team that’s here to help you achieve your goals.

Staying in constant touch with a lender is very valuable, considering that they are the ones that are giving you the money. They can tell you what you may need to pay off or what you may not need to pay off. They will also give you the qualifications for loans, so then you can take that information and apply it to your situation. Also, having someone that you can call and ask questions about the loan process, makes things much easier for you.

You should do the same with a realtor. Having some one that you have built a relationship with and that you trust helps the process no matter how far you are out from buying a home. You don’t have to guess or wonder, they can answer questions for you whenever something comes up that you are curious about. Example: If you receive 100% financing, will you still need money up front for due diligence and earnest money? Or an even better question, what is due diligence and earnest money? Just simple things can get explained to help you feel more comfortable when it’s time for you to buy.

So just remember that it’s never too soon to speak with someone, rather it’s a Realtor or a lender and have someone answer the questions that you may have. Or actually, give you detailed advice on what YOU need to do to achieve your home buying goals.
