How do you ensure that the dev team understands the design?

I’d like to add “Be consistent” to this list. As a front-end developer, it’s mildy infuriating when I’m supposed to implement multiple, ever so slightly visually different styles for the same component. But I guess these inconsistencies come to surface when style guides are used. (We still design complete web pages rather than components, for some reason. I can only guess it’s because our clients prefer to preview their product as a whole.)
