When you look around you’ll see many people who claim to be successful and look like a person of worth, but as you get close to them you realize that they aren’t as successful or wise as they portray themselves to be. And too often, the big shot is usually living his life in obscurity; you need to search them.

When you realize this you’ll be left with a question: What defines a man's worth? In this post, we’ll discuss some of the key scales that can be used to judge the worth of a man.

  1. How influential he is: A person who holds some dignity and strong values can project certain traits onto others by just a conversation. They have that depth in their personality that makes them stand out from the crowd and attract people’s attention.
  2. The way he interacts with others: The person who has achieved something in life knows very well how to behave with others. He is someone who has worked hard to be where he is and appreciate the one who is working hard currently.
  3. How hard he is trying: A person who is working hard to break his bondages and to support his family is far more worthy of respect than the one who is blessed with his family’s fortune. Don’t get offended if you are rich but you need to realize that if you are blessed you need to support or at least give your efforts regarding those who aren't that privileged.
  4. His response to temptations: Successful people are successful because they’ve successfully resisted short-term temptations to focus on long-term goals. A person who can resist the temptations that life is offering right now to do something more worthy is someone who deserves more respect than others.
  5. Is he respectful towards others: Whether it be a multi-millionaire of a janitor who is earning his bread without creating any problem for others, a person with strong values respects both of them. He respects their dignity, self-esteem, and opinions; he never lets other people feel inferior in his presence.

These are some real benchmarks that should be used while deciding a person’s worth, you need to accept that a person who helps you in your time of need, someone who is there to support you and who knows how to handle tough conversations and situations is better than a millionaire who isn’t a reliable person and doesn’t provide you any value.

We all need to reflect on the metrics on which we judge others we need to set those standards that help find the right person and eliminate the wrong one.

“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” Albert Einstein
