When the thrill is gone

You know that feeling when you do something for the first time.

  • When you drive your new car for the first time.
  • When you open a present you just received.
  • When you meet somebody new.

What happens when you drive that car every day to get to work, and you dread the commute time when the present you received is used and no longer new, or you know a lot about that person you met because he has been your friend for many years?

The thrill is gone. What’s next?

Well, the car still gets you where you need to go, the present still fulfils its purpose and your friend is there for you when you need him and helps to shape who you are.

Thrilling is fine. Mattering is more important.

Same goes for work. The thrill of the first day of a new job is long gone. Now it’s time to keep showing up and doing the work. Continue your journey.
