How should a beginner investor start investing money in the Stock Market?

I would start investing in a low cost index fund with the lowest fees as possible particularly from Vanguard. They have a shorter learning curve and you do not have to time the market if you invest consistently. My personal preference would be to choose the S&P 500 index fund or Dividend Appreciation Index fund. Make sure to buy the Admiral Shares version to lower your fees as much as possible.
