Are You Sure You Are That Good? Do We Need Good Programmers Or Good Teams?

If yes, what have you built?

What can you build?

What have you been building?

Among all your builds, which actually solves a problem?

Which problem in particular did you actually solve?

Which problem are you solving? And how well are you solving it?

How important is your solution? How is it changing or will it change lives? Why do we have so many good developers from platforms to platforms yet very few outstanding tech solutions out there(for instance in Nigeria, we have paystack, rave, interswitch, simplepay? flutterwave, gtpay, etransact, etc. — I know we have a lot of them but few compare to the number of good developers that we have. )

How long do we continue to build blogs and ecommerce sites that have tons of ready solutions that only require a few hours of set up?

I think it’s high time we have a rethink and start building real solutions.

A real solution requires a team of people with complementary motivation, experience and skills — technical, commercial(sales), inspirational and financial.

There are people with the next generation solution idea who can’t write a line of code.

In essence being able to write codes doesn’t automatically make you a problem solver.

So we need techpreneurs not just coders. We need strong teams not just individuals who stay glued to their laptops night and day debugging a code that the next person could have helped and save him the stress.

But wait, why are we reinventing the wheel all the time? For example, we spend days trying to design an authentication system that every application ought to have.

Seriously as programmers we should implement DRY not just as individuals but as a team.

We need collaboration much than we need funding because I believe it’s easier funding teams than individuals.

I have been a victim of this and I want a way out. I have solutions in my head and on paper I have been trying to implement alone just like many others here but I have come to the realization that I need a team. A group of passionate individuals with skills, experience and motivation that complement mine. Indeed I believe that one can chase a thousand but 2 can chase ten thousand.
