(REALISTIC REVIEWS #99) Ethan Hanna “Welcome To The Batlands”

Towards the end of this record Hanna sings about “somewhere shadows fall” and that’s kinda what this record is, like the shadows of it’s influences. And what’s wrong with that? Plenty of us love Springsteen and Waits and Counting Crows and obviously the parallels are going to be drawn…

…but it’s not like you know them, it’s not a rip off by any means because it sounds like it would ft in with the mid/late 90s alternative albums made by Live or The Wallflowers, opener “Bikes and Cars” sees to that. it is followed by the “Perfect” gives the vibe of the album a bit of a pulse but “Late August Wonder” restores order.

The rest of the album flows nicely and kind of gives you fair warning with it’s titles, “Bad Dreams” is kind of spooky for example and last song “Reprise” is, in fact, a reprise.

All in all the album flows nicely and is full of nostalgia but most interestingly it sounds like a good album from a time when albums were bad.

Try “Perfect” here https://open.spotify.com/track/7f87WcfAZQAXUoN3q8cs38?si=KagUrPLRSdWE-8FzifqIYQ
