“Acne is not a serious health issue, but there are chances that you might lose your confidence due to acne scars.”

Acne affects approximately 50% of women of ages 21 to 30, 25% of women age 31 to 40 years, and 12% of women age 41 to 50 years.

How does it happen?

Human skin has pores, connected to oil glands through follicles — small canals. These oil glands release a liquid known as Sebum. Acne occurs when hair follicles get clogged with dead skin cells and oil from the skin.

How to get rid of it?

You can follow these steps to get rid of stubborn acne:

Cleansing & Exfoliating

Most of the people think that they get acne because they don’t wash their face enough. Gentle washing is important, however, too much washing can irritate your tissues. The whiteheads and blackheads can get more infecting and result in more acne. Make sure to use a mild cleanser to clean your face.

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells layer and is also important for healthy and flawless skin. Exfoliate your face once or twice a week to reduce dead skin cells and debris which can clog pores and cause more acne.

Moisturize

Many acne products contain ingredients that make your skin dry. Make sure to apply moisturizer regularly to minimize the risk of dryness and skin peeling. Ensure to look for “noncomedogenic” on the label, which means it should not cause acne. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type.

Apply sunscreen

Ultraviolet rays from the sun can increase inflammation and redness and can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher at least 20 minutes before heading out in the sun. Avoid going outdoors, especially between the hours of 10:00 and 14:00 hours. Make sure to wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, pants, and broad-brimmed hats or caps.

Exercise daily

Regular exercise is good for the body and skin. It removes toxins from the body through sweat. So whenever you exercise, avoid wearing heavy clothing or using exercise equipment that rubs your skin badly and causes irritation. Make sure to take a shower after exercise.

Consult a dermatologist

If acne persists for more than 15 days, you should consult a dermatologist. Your doctor may recommend a 3 months or 6 months treatment. Make sure to complete your course properly as acne can come back at any age.
