Very motivating :)
One misconception you have is that all coding companies are full of young people. Yes, mostly it is, I saw a lot of companies during interviews and events and what always struck me was a) the very small amount of women and b) the very small amount of people over the age of 40. But in my current company there are only 2 guys below the age of 40, one of them is me. Everyone else here is 45–55, some even over 60. Especially the programmers who are doing that for 20–30 years now are saying that they’re getting slower when it comes to new concepts but on the other hand, they are experts in their own field. No fancy degree can beat 20 years of experience. Anyway, I think it won’t be easy but you don’t have to work for a startup where everyone is below 30 and plays around with Nerf guns.
I have the biggest respect for people daring to change their career, no matter the age. I know people in their twenties, stuck in a job or at university, afraid to switch because they’re “too old” and because they already spend so much time on one field. I don’t like the thought of me doing the same things for the next 40 years, I’m pretty sure I’ll switch careers at some point. I just hope that I’ll be as brave and as optimistic about it as your are. :)
