Tim got me to walk around campus, taking photos and exploring my feelings.
My own hands make me feel safe. This is my most powerful hand, my right hand. I trust myself, I believe in myself and I feel safety in my own abilities. I am an unstoppable force.
Nothing on campus is older than Jesus. This statue is not the oldest structure here, but what it represents is definitely old. Jesus also makes me feel safe — Rather my faith and beliefs. His hands are strong just like mine.
These steps are one of the newest additions to campus. They’re a nice looking feature, but they sucks for accessibility. Last week after class, sooner than expected, I saw a kid on a skateboard attempting to do ollies off the top of them. It made me nostalgic for my skater days. He wasn’t that great. Didn’t land a single ollie. He did keep trying though; I admired that.
This is a photo of a poster I took of Lil Uzi. I’m inspired by this kid, because he represents a generation of kids who are empowered by their uniqueness. When I was a skater it was not cool for black males to skateboard, wear vans and thrasher t-shirts. It’s much more popular now, largely in part to this generation of youth beggining to be more open, more fearless. I applaud the “weird” and happy.
Nothing scares me much, but I have a respectable fear of police. I’ve been held at gunpoint four times in my life, and two of those times were by police. Not Marquette police they rock! But it light of what we see in the media and my own personal experience, whenever I encounter police my first thoughts are to make sure they feel safe, when it should be the other way around.
These are two photo frames on the window sill of my desk at work. On the left, my two daughters Angel and Keydra at the fountain at the art museum. The frame on the right is my son Deshaun, and Angel again, riding a ride at the state fair. These photos are when they were much younger, but all of my dreams and hopes begin with them.
Aaliyah saved the day! This is my permission portrait. Jesse says this was a lazy photo — but he said it in a nice way. He was right though. Damn you Jesse Lee for calling out my flaws.
This photo is beautiful. It should have less grass and more sky, but I do like the blue/green ground/sky contrast. We do have a visually beautiful campus, right in the heart of the city. I love my city.
I’ve never really noticed this on campus before, under the stairwell. It looks to be a water distribution system of some sort. If there ever was a need, now I know where to put the hose.
Something familar at a new angle and a closeup all in one. The benches on campus are nice and inviting and a great way to take a break and people watch.
This is home for me for about 40 hours a week. I’m coming up on being an employee of Marquette for 12 years. I never imagined being anywhere that long. When I first came here, one of the main reasons was to have an option for college for my kids. Two of the three are college age but decided not to come. Angel is a senior in high school. She’s coming next year. 12 years with a purpose!
I couldn’t remember where the actual time capsule in the new dorms was located, so I took a screenshot of the photo posted on twitter. I’m resourceful like that.
Contrasting texture. One is living, one is not. Both are beautiful, both have a purpose. There is beauty in the details.
This was the first image I took today to represent something that made me feel safe. This was me being lazy trying to meet the requirements. I learned to pay more attention and stop being lazy, except when it comes to taking photos of strangers. I’m still lazy there.
After failing to find the actual time capsule, I sat for 60 seconds at the foot of the steps to the new commons. After the 60 seconds, I took this photo. And then I watched as people accidentaly stepped into that gigantic puddle with the beautiful reflection.
When I first started my journey at Marquette, this was my first work mug. My cousin who graduated from Florida AMU, got his first job out of college working for Pfizer Pharmaceutical company. One of his main products was viagra. He gave me this mug as swag. Not has it been a great mug that’s lasted many years, it was always fun to walk in to a meeting and set my big blue Viagra mug onto the boardroom table. Wildcard times 10!
