We must get rid of political parties
I hate to be the one to inform you… but in case you have not found out by now, neither the Democratic or Republican Parties actually care about you. Well actually they do care about you, when it comes to elections
when they need your vote. While the United States has been depicted as a “model democracy” by many Americans, the party system has corrupted the government and tarnished it in all ways possible.
Right now as election season is going on, presidential candidates have put forth either progressive or conservative platforms to help shape the United States into a better country. The question that not enough people are asking is: who are these policies actually benefiting?
While policies that political parties push can and often do help the American public, this idea masks the true purpose of all policies. For example, Secretary Clinton says that no other candidate will be as tough on Wall Street as she will be, and that no one has a plan that goes as far as hers on getting big money out of politics. However, when you do a simple Google search, your findings are much different than her actual platform. Four of five of the top donors to Clinton’s campaign come from the big banks that caused the economic crash in 2008. Who is blind enough to believe that someone who is funded by big money and has a big chance at winning the presidency will turn on those who helped them reach their success? It is not rocket science, however many still have do not have a firm grasp on this basic concept.
Today the Democratic National Committee basically [in my opinion] told America that they are just as much a party of corruption as their rivals. They announced that they will be lifting the ban on lobbyists and Super PACs from infiltrating into the party. These big donor groups have clear interests in manipulating government into working for only themselves, and when the Democratic Party allows for this to happen and actually makes it easier to happen it shows that they do not really care about a lower class family.
George Washington was also an advocate of removing political parties, or as he described “factions.” In Washington’s farewell address, he stated we must stop our differences from dividing us into factions, however that did not stop the American people from doing so in the future. Political parties seemed to be the most logical way of differentiating candidates for office, but today they are nothing more than corporate advocates. It comes to my attention that GW was right all along!
Both the Democratic and Republican Parties have too much control over the media as well; the concept of a two party system dominates American politics, even though almost every democratic country has many different political parties. The United States also has many parties; but why do these smaller parties have no chance? Money. The debate committee that controls the presidential general election debates is controlled by strictly Democrats and Republicans. Since they do not want other parties to take away from their vote or pose a threat, they manipulate debates to the point where only the Democratic and Republican nominees qualify for the debate. Jill Stein, the 2012 Green Party candidate for president who is seeking the 2016 nomination has frequently voiced her opinion on the issue; in fact she has started a petition but there is virtually no coverage over the Green Party or any other third party anywhere.
It is clear that the political parties that dominate the United States have darker intentions than what they say they are for. We must end this party system to help reshape democracy to its core meaning that the United States was built upon. This may never happen in our lifetime though as the corporate puppets within the House will never turn their backs on those who help them when it comes to reelection.
