Onde-Onde Ketan (Indonesian’s Food)
- Here’s how to make “Onde-Onde Ketan” :
- Ingredients:
- 200 grams glutinous rice flour
- 100 grams sweet mung bean paste
- 50 grams grated coconut (toasted)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Pandan leaves (for aroma and green color)
- Water
Instructions:
1. Preparing the Dough:
— In a bowl, mix glutinous rice flour with a pinch of salt. Gradually add water while stirring until you get a smooth dough consistency.
2. Portioning the Dough:
— Take small portions of the dough and flatten them in your palm. Put a small amount of sweet mung bean paste in the center and fold the dough to form a ball.
3. Boiling the Onde-Onde:
— Bring a pot of water to a boil. Drop the onde-onde into the boiling water. Once they float to the surface, let them cook for an additional 1–2 minutes. This step partially cooks the onde-onde.
4. Coating with Grated Coconut:
— Remove the partially cooked onde-onde from the boiling water and roll them in toasted grated coconut while they are still slightly wet. The moisture helps the coconut adhere.
5. Ready to Serve:
— Onde-Onde Ketan is now ready to be enjoyed. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Onde-Onde Ketan is a delightful Indonesian snack with chewy glutinous rice dough, a sweet mung bean filling, and a crispy coconut coating. It’s often savored during festive occasions or as a delightful treat with a cup of tea or coffee.
