This is the way life works: the choices driven by necessity often bring unintended benefits. The transition to micro-services & DevOps was driven by the need for massive scale and reliability, but also brought insanely fast delivery and unprecedented business agility. Likewise, cost savings is the main driver for the transition to serverless. We don’t go there for development agility or the joy of functional programming in the cloud, even if we get some. I think we are yet to discover all the collaterals around the serverless transformation.
