How did the Rainbow become the LGBT Logo?

Rainbows and I go way back. All the way back to Sunday School.

That was where I first learned about why rainbows exist and I was told that they are a sign from God.

After the Great Flood, he created the rainbow as a symbol of his promise to never destroy the world again, with water.

I always wondered if that meant he could use the wind the next time he decided to throw his toys out of the pram. He’d also use fire later on.

Anyway, that was the story.

But why did God send the flood in the first place?

Apparently, he did so because he wanted to wipe out all the giants (the half man, half angel) and the ungodly from the face of the earth.

Remember those men who wanted to sleep with the male angels that met with Lot in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah?

They were the so called ungodly.

Well, God destroyed them with fire. But in the days of Noah, he used water.

After the flood, he felt really bad for killing so many people, so he made the rainbow to say sorry.

LGBT 🏳️‍🌈

Today, IBM revealed their new rainbow themed logo in support of the LGBT community, and this reminded me of a question that’s been on my mind for years.

Why is the rainbow the symbol for the LGBT community?

They say the colours represent the diversity of people and their sexuality.

But that doesn’t do it for me.

I was looking for a real story behind why they chose the rainbow and the more I thought about it, the more I came up with something like this.

A Story of Irony

My theory is that the LGBT chose the rainbow as a tongue-in-cheek way to have a dig at organised religion and its outdated ideas.

Why else would a symbol that alludes to the biblical Great Flood be used by the same people who were allegedly part of the cause?

I’m probably way off the mark but it’s definitely some food for thought.

I’m happy that IBM and other companies continue to show their support for the LGBT community because people should be treated equally regardless of their sexuality.

In 2017, the temperamental God of the Bible who is also very jealous, needs to take a chill pill and give people a chance to find love, live life, proceed and progress.

I’m so grateful you took the time to read my post. All I need is for you to help me spread the word! If you’ve enjoyed reading this, please do me a favour and show me some love by ‘hearting’ and sharing this piece. Thanks.
