A Review of Canva
I’ve mentioned Canva before but I didn’t go in to much detail about it. It is a free (there are other options, of course) website and app that helps in designing all different types of media and documents. I have used both the free and the business version as well as the website and the app.
You can go to Sign In and start your registration and start playing, OR one of my favorite things about Canva is you can go to Learn.
Learn is where you can access their blog, tutorials, and even lesson plans! Canva is extremely versatile and they show an understanding that they attract both beginners and experts. Now I’m sure my designs are very basic compared to what Canva is capable of, but I love that it’s something I discovered and was immediately able to start designing.
How many times have you downloaded a new design app and you can’t even figure out how to open a new project? I’m not gonna lie I’ve had it happen more than once! I highly encourage everyone, even if you have a different program you love, to look at their Learn page.

Another aspect of Canva that I love is their templates. Before Canva I spent so long designing one picture and then if I tried to use it on Facebook and Twitter (those cursed headers!) the picture was too big on Twitter. I was constantly adjusting sizes trying it again then readjusting sizes. Canva has a template already sized for Twitter and Facebook as well as tons more for social media or regular documents.

For each media template they then have hundreds of design templates already put together for you. I’m no longer starting with a completely blank canvas which saves me a lot of time.

I have tried the business version and LOVED it! This is definitely perfect for any blogger or small business owner because you can set your own colors and fonts so when you begin each project you don’t have to hunt them down. I love that feature!
I tried the business version for the free trial and they alerted me BEFORE the free trial was up!
Completely crazy, right? It’s also very easy to cancel the business version online if you don’t want to pay for it.
So I have told you tons of amazing things I love about Canva, however, like anything in our internet driven world, there are a few things that need improving.
My biggest complaint with Canva is their apps.
I use the app on both my iPad and iPhone but it is much harder to manipulate projects on the apphan the website. I only use my iPhone to download the designs from Canva and save them to upload or share. It is nearly impossible to do any real designing with the app on the iPhone.
The app is easier on my iPad but it is still missing a few things I love about the website. It is harder to rearrange or change the designs and the header templates do not show you where the profile picture will be. On the website the Facebook and Twitter headers have gray areas where anything on those sites (like a profile picture) may cover so you can make sure it doesn’t mess up any text or major design elements.
Over all, I think Canva is an amazing design tool for anyone at any level! Good luck and have fun!
