API— Another Product Integration
There’s a lot to learn about and a lot to say about APIs, but here I’ll keep it simple.
An offering of the functionality of an app to developers outside an organization.
In this definition we focus on external products and services that we want to integrate into our apps (as opposed to us creating APIs to integrate with other products). We will be able to plug into other common services to enhance our user experience and develop faster.
Payments — Stripe, Braintree, Paypal
Authentication — Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
Notifications — Twilio, Amazon SNS, MailChimp, SendGrid, Pusher
Google — Maps, Analytics, Translate, YouTube
Social — LinkedIn, Pinterest, Meetup, Vimeo, Quora
Development — Crashlytics, Amazon S3,
Other — Yelp, eBay, Dropbox, Slack, Spotify, IBM Watson, Salesforce
