Oddly enough, my son and I had a discussion about circumcision not too long ago, after one of his Human Sexuality classes. I had my kiddo in 1997 and his father and I opted to have him circumsized. The procedure was more prevalent at that time. I entered nursing school the following year. During my first pediatric clinical rotation, I observed a circumcision. I was mortified. My heart ached for the tiny baby. (And I almost ended up with kidnapping charges that day.) It would’ve been a much more difficult decision had my son been born after I saw the procedure. I still stand behind my decision though. It it an incredibly quick procedure and there is minimal pain (for infants, not adult males as I understand) afterwards, provided the parents take care of the glans penis properly. My son is better protected from STDs and in turn, better protecting his future partners should they opt out of using condoms. Growing up, he looked the same as his dad. He won’t be teased in the locker room like I hear uncut guys are. He doesn’t have to worry so much about “dick cheese” like uncut guys either. (Speaking from experience, that stinky stuff ruins an intimate moment for your partner in 0.2 seconds.) Plus, just an opinion here, cut cocks are so much more attractive. Motherhood is usually a thankless job. Funny that my son would thank me for having him circumsized.
