Kurapika is a tough and intelligent man with vast knowledge. He is reserved; not one of those who easily opens up to people and is rather judgmental. Traumatized from losing everyone he loved at the age of twelve, Kurapika closes his heart to new people and remains an introvert to stay focused on his goal.

However, Kurapika can be kind and affectionate, smiling when these friends are happy. Although Kurapika outwardly states that he desires to become a blacklisted Hunter and his ultimate goal is to catch the gang of thieves who murdered his family, he is willing to compromise his personal morals and dive into the seedy side of society in order to achieve his goal. .
