Introduction

Hearing problems are common in today’s world, especially elderly people. With increasing age, loss in hearing occurs and causes a lot of problems for these people. These problems can be solved if people use a hearing aid. A hearing aid is a device that helps in increasing the sound from nearby surroundings and send it to a speaker worn by the user. It is quite a helpful device and can be found in the market in various types. Older versions of these devices were analog in nature, only helping in amplifying the sound, but newer versions are digitized. This means that digital devices have many more features than older analog ones and removes many of the disadvantages caused by analog hearing aids. One of the main problems of hearing aids is the need to regularly change the batteries of the device which is quite an inconvenience. Depending on the usage, one has to change the batteries within a few days or a few weeks. This problem is solved by using rechargeable hearing aids that use lithium-ion or silver-zinc rechargeable batteries. These batteries do not need changing for a few years, so it reduces the problems caused by disposable batteries.

Rechargeable vs disposable batteries

Using disposable batteries in hearing aids causes a lot of problems. Many devices using them drain the battery even if the person is not actively using it. These batteries are difficult to handle, too, as they can easily be misplaced or lost. Because of new features being added to digital hearing aids, the consumption of battery power also increases a lot. Apart from these, there are obvious problems such as the inconvenience of going to the store every time the battery needs to be changed, the extra cost of buying new batteries. These problems can be easily solved if one starts to use rechargeable hearing aids. These rechargeable hearing aids use batteries that do not need changing for a long period. Instead, just like a laptop or a phone, the batteries need to be charged regularly. This makes it a lot more convenient than disposable ones. A single charge can help the battery last a whole day, even after heavy use. One can easily use their Bluetooth features without expecting a major drain on the battery level. Chargers are small and a few of them use USB to charge the batteries. This means that one can recharge the batteries using a laptop too. Rechargeable hearing aids use removable batteries, so if they are damaged, one can keep using the device by replacing it the battery with a disposable one.

Conclusion

Using disposable batteries can be quite a nuisance, especially for elderly people, as one needs to continually change them and visit shops multiple times. Few of them are not even environmentally friendly. All these problems can be fixed by using rechargeable hearing aids whose batteries do need constant changing and are environment-friendly. A single charge is enough for the device to run smoothly for a whole day.
