Small correction. What you are talking about here is not EROI, which is a financial acronym denoting the amount of energy you get out for the amount of money you put in.
What you need is EROEI which is what you are talking about here, Energy Return On Energy Invested. Otherwise, yes. Not especially new, the Oil Drum and its various contributors and spinoffs have been trying to get this story across for 15 years already, with little luck because vested interests really don’t want it being bandied about.
