Many “white” people understand systemic discrimiation as well and know the difficulties faced by people in this unjust social system and are working to change it. This is a horrible problem that people are like this and that we could make decisions from a higher point of view that we are all human beings. But that is not our reality at this moment and the issue is how do we heal this? How do we move forward knowing that many people don’t know there is a problem or that they have anything to heal and that racism harms the person that engages in hatred but in a less visible and different ways? Try to tell a racist person that they have a problem and see the ugliness and anger in their soul. It is different from a person who knows better. They usually say they know and do so with humility and looking for ways to heal. I wish we lived in a society that does not engage in hatred in any way but I know that is not true. All I can do is address hatred wherever I see it. The truth is a hateful person does deep down hate themselves. This will always come out if a person wants to heal is they understand that lack of self worth is the root cause of all illness and often this self hatred is projected onto others. Only a person who self -reflects and wants to heal will move beyond seeing others through labels rather than as a human being.
