Despite being the wealthiest nation in the world, the U.S. ranks #13 in infrastructure quality. This deterioration is not new or sudden; in fact, public domestic investment has decreased by more than 40% over the course of 60 years. In 2021, President Biden created the 3-part “Build Back Better Agenda”. The American Rescue Plan Act was the first part launched in response to COVID-19 to provide financial relief for working families. The American Jobs Plan is the second part of this proposal and is not a response to COVID-19, but to the worsening economy.

The American Jobs Plan intends to create over 10 million jobs, rebuild America’s infrastructure, address the climate crisis, and aid the U.S. to out-compete China. The plan addresses long-standing infrastructure issues such as fixing highways, rebuilding bridges, renewing electric grids, delivering clean drinking water, retrofitting more than 2 million American homes and commercial buildings, and upgrading hospitals to name a few. Unlike other major investments from the U.S. federal government, the American Jobs Plan also addresses racial injustice by allocating 40% of the benefits of climate and clean infrastructure investments to disadvantaged communities.
