How to keep your Orchids fresh when cut?
Orchids are a symbol of love and beauty. We all know that orchids are a delicate kind of flower and needs extra care to keep the blooms beautiful. When you have a fresh cut orchid in your vase what you want to do is to keep the blooms fresh and beautiful as long as you could. Here are some homemade mixtures and tips for you to keep your orchid flower lasts longer and bloom at it’s best.
Keep Orchids FRESH when CUT.
BLEACH MIXTURE
1. Wash a vase with warm soapy water to ensure it is cleanliness, dry it.
2. Cut the orchid stem on a diagonal with pruning shears or a sharp knife and place it into the flower vase.
3. In a separate container, add 1 tsp. of sugar and chlorine bleach to 1 qt. of lukewarm water in a 2 qt. pitcher. Squeeze a fresh lemon or lime and add 2 tsp. of the juice to the mixture.
4. Fill the vase with the homemade mixture until it is halfway up the orchid stems. Cover the container and reserve any remaining solution to refill the vase.
5. Replenish the water level once it goes down. This helps keep the orchids flowers looking their best and last longer.
LEMON-LIME MIXTURE
1. Wash a vase with warm soapy water to ensure it is cleanliness, dry it.
2. Cut the orchid stem on a diagonal with pruning shears or a sharp knife and place it into the flower vase.
3. In a separate container, pour one can of lemon-lime carbonated beverage into a 2 qt. pitcher. Add 1 tbsp. of sugar, approximately seven or eight drops of hydrogen peroxide and 1 liter of lukewarm water into the pitcher.
4. Fill the vase with the homemade mixture until it is halfway up the orchid stems. Cover the container and reserve any remaining solution to refill the vase.
5. Check the water level every couple of days and replenish it with the reserved homemade mixture to keep the orchids fresh and last longer.
