Friday’s taste: Venison

I remember the first time I tried it, it was in a pub nearby Greenwich and they were offering in their menu venison burger, something that sounded exotic to me as I had never heard about it before, I felt brave and I went for it. The first bite was a bit dry but the more I was eating the better it tasted. Now, venison has become my first choice when having to eat meat, why? Because of it’s properties.

Venison meat is similar to beef, only leaner. It provides dense protein but not harmful saturated fat.

This protein source includes several B vitamins that keep the body young and healthy.

It contains taurine and cystine, two sulfur-rich amino acids that help the liver to flush toxins out of the body as part of the metabolic process. If these toxins are left unused, the body gets tired, sick and unable to heal and renew.

Taurine and cystine also maintain the essential minerals in the body, invigorate the blood, prevent disease and improve circulation to keep our skin healthy and glowing.

Equally important is the fact that venison has a smaller amount of fat (A 100 gram serving has only 3 grams of fat), the leanest beef is far from offering.

Where can you eat venison?

According to a list published by Evening Standard, here you have 5 different choices of venison friendly restaurants:

  1. Rules — 35 Maiden Lane, WC2 (rules.co.uk)
  2. Fika — 161 Brick Lane, E1 (fikalondon.com)
  3. Rosa’s Thai Café — Several locations (rosasthaicafe.com)
  4. The Gun — 27 Coldharbour, E14 (thegundocklands.com)
  5. Cinnamon Kitchen — 9 Devonshire Square, EC2M (cinnamon-kitchen.com)

If you haven’t tried it yet, what are you waiting for? Believe me, you will become an addict!
