Tracy Greenamyer, an enthusiastic new gym member at Anytime Fitness in Canfield, OH, discovered how to adapt nutrition guidelines to help her maintain her weight and establish healthy long-term habits.
Her Motivation
Tracy had struggled to maintain her weight without success. “I’ve tried it all — shakes, pills, magic.” A few years ago, hit her peak weight and decided it was time to make changes. “It scared me into kickstarting my health journey.” Tracy started going to gyms and watching what she ate, but with COVID and quarantine, she put on a few extra pounds and wanted to get rid of them for good. …
Enrique Santamaría, a Spaniard and UX/UI designer living in Castro San Francisco, found good vibes and moments of order with EatLove — amid the chaos of quarantine.
His Motivation
Enrique recently signed up for a membership at FITNESS SF. “I wanted to lose a bit of weight that I put on during quarantine.” He discovered EatLove while exploring the FITNESS SF app and was impressed that the gym had included nutrition in its program. “It’s a nice surprise for nutrition to be in the gym. But none of the gyms I’ve been to before had anything related to diet.”
How He Did…
Nathaniel Abrea, an easygoing UX/UI designer in North Beach San Francisco and member of FITNESS SF, increased his energy and discovered how rewarding nutritious food can be after using EatLove for just 1 month.
How He Did It
Nathaniel was exploring the features on the FITNESS SF app when he found EatLove. “It was an easy adoption because I’m low maintenance in terms of how I plan food.” Nathaniel uses EatLove to plan breakfasts and lunches during the week, and he doesn’t play it safe as he pushes himself to try new things. “The recipe suggestions have been really fun because they’re not foods I would normally buy — like celery — and they turn out great.” …
“Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation.” — Zig Ziglar
We all know the feeling of dread when Sunday comes to a close and we are faced with the challenges of a new week. But you can make that week a little easier by preparing in advance. At EatLove, we know that having time to cook a meal everyday isn’t always possible. That’s why we love the leftovers engine on our platform. Even with leftovers, though, there are other ways to make cooking even easier, like prepping your foods in advance.
Sundays are our food prep days. The family is home and it’s a great time to do something together. Plus, it gets you ready for the rest of the week. …
“Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” -Thomas Dekker
As a kid, you may have been told that getting enough sleep could help you grow faster or do better in school — you may even use that line on your own kids. And it’s mostly true! Sleep helps the body in a number of different ways that can help kids function and grow healthily (1).
But as adults, we may forget the importance of sleep. We sacrifice our sleep so we can get more done in the day. When you’re juggling so many responsibilities at once, sleep sometimes just doesn’t seem that important — it’s a luxury that you just can’t seem to afford at times. …
“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.” -Rikki Rogers
When you start a new goal, you’re likely determined to make it happen. But as you work at it day by day, you might not see the results you expected. As time goes on, reaching your goal seems impossible and you want to give up. (It’s happened to all of us at some point, so you’re not alone.) We’re here to tell you to stick with it!
We all know that trying to change behavior takes time. But what we don’t realize is that our progress throughout that time will not be linear. Meaning, if I put in an hour of work today, then I can expect X result tomorrow. And that will hold true for everyday that I work on my goal. …
For many of us, tracking foods is difficult. Maybe we are great at tracking our meals for a few days, but then life gets busy and we forget. When you struggle to log your foods, it’s important to remember why tracking foods can be so impactful. In this post, we will explore the benefits of food tracking.
First, let’s review what we mean when we refer to food tracking. Food tracking is documenting what you eat and drink throughout the day. Your food log should include all the meals, snacks, and little extras you’ve eaten. It should include servings in addition to the specific foods. An effective food log may also include notes about how you felt that day — tired, energetic, irritable, nauseated. …
Eating healthy foods is just one part of your overall nutrition. It’s important to pair the right foods with the right portions. For example, eating healthy foods in large quantities could cause you to gain weight instead of lose weight.
Portions refer to the amount of food that you eat at a time. This food could be prepared in your own kitchen or could come from a restaurant. On the other hand, a serving size is a predetermined measurement, like 8 ounces or 6 crackers, that is used to generate the food’s nutritional information (1). …
We all know what the craving is like when you just want to taste the sweet goodness of something sugary. And this is actually a natural instinct that has been passed down through humankind. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate, meaning it is a source of easy energy. Early humans would have wanted sugar because sugar offered more energy than other foods. It also helped the body store fat, which was helpful for early groups of humans who weren’t able to eat very consistently. Over the years, this instinct has continued — even though our meals aren’t scarce (1).
But that’s not the only reason why we crave sugar. Scientists have shown that sugar stimulates the chemical dopamine in the brain, which is responsible for making us feel good. This may be because our early ancestors who ate sugar would have been more likely to survive. Fast forward to today, and most of the human race likes sugar. However, the increase in dopamine is also a response to using cocaine and heroin, making sugar an addictive substance (2). …
When it’s time to clean out the fridge, do you end up throwing away a lot of produce or leftovers? We know that it happens from time to time, but at EatLove we are focused on efficiency and reducing food waste. In this post, we want to teach you a little more about food waste worldwide and how it impacts the environment. Of course, we will also share some helpful tips to reduce food waste in your home.
According to Move for Hunger, about 1/3 of the food that is produced in the world is lost or wasted (1).
What’s the difference? Food loss occurs when foods can’t be consumed due to factors like natural disasters, lack of infrastructure, and poor food management practices. Usually food loss occurs early in the production stages. Food waste refers to consumers throwing out edible food because of a failure to plan properly or throwing out spoiled foods that weren’t consumed. Food waste can be a result of a direct consumer or a supermarket. Either way, that’s food someone could have eaten. …
